Huangfu (皇甫), alternatively pronounced Huangpu,[1] is a Chinese compound surname. Huangfu (皇甫) were phased changes to Huang(皇). also Huang (皇) has another dialect Wang (王), thus most Huang (皇) Change surname to Wang (王).

Origin of Huangfu

in early Zhou Dynasty, Huangfu is the Name of Military Office of Zhou Dynasty period, they Officer's descendents prepended his name onto their own to commemorative him, and thus the surname was born. middle Zhou Dynasty, some noble of Zheng (state) became Officer of Zhou Dynasty Government. thus, Post Huangfu (皇甫) family founded in from descendant of Wu Ji (武子) of Zheng (state). some Huangfu (皇甫) family founded in Song (state) in Zhou Dynasty at period.

Huangfu (皇甫) were phased changes to Huang(皇), so Huang (皇) family has same origin as Huangfu family, but some are able maintain the surname Huang (皇) by personal choice, or coincidence.
