Hrovat
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hrovat is a Slovene variation of Hungarian surname Horvath, originating from Croatia. It may refer to:
- Andy Hrovat, American freestyle wrestler
- Urška Hrovat, retired Slovenian alpine skier
The surname is a variation of the more common version Horvat, which is the second most common surname in Slovenia. It comes from the word Hrvat (archaically Horvat), which means a Croat. A similar surname, common in Slovenian Istria and in the Slovenian Littoral, is Hrovatin or Hrvatin (Italianized to Crevatin). The village of Hrvatini on the Slovenian coast is derived from this surname.
