The House of Pahlavi (Persian: خاندان پهلوی), is the imperial house which ruled Iran from the Coronation of Rezā Shāh in 1925, following the overthrow of Ahmad Shah Qajar, the last ruler of the Sublime State of Persia, which was already weakened by Soviet and British occupation. The National Assembly of Iran, known as the Majlis, convening as a Constituent Assembly on 12 December 1925, deposed the young Ahmad Shah Qajar, and declared Reza Shah the new monarch of the Imperial State of Iran on 15 December that same year. In 1935, Reza Shah issued a request to foreign embassies that the country hitherto known as Persia internationally, should also be known by its native name Iran in the international arena. He was eventually forced to abdicate during the Anglo-Soviet invasion on 16 September 1941. Reza Shah's son Mohammad Reza Shah was in turn overthrown, and the imperial house deposed by the Iranian Revolution of 1979.[1]
