Hoosier Schoolboy is a 1937 American film directed by William Nigh. The film is about a high school bad boy, Shockey Carter. It starts out when a new schoolteacher, Mary Evens, moves into a small suburbon town in Indiana. She checks in at the Noble Hotel when a bellhop named Shockey Carter brings her suitcase upstairs to her room. When Shockey comes back downstairs, he encounters a classmate, Roger Townsend. Who picks on him. He drops a quarter on the floor and tells Shockey to "Buy your old man another quart."
The next morning, Shockey was waiting on the schoolgrounds for Roger to pass by. He grabed Roger's shirt to get his attention. Shockey confronted to Roger about what he said Saturday night at the hotel. With Roger not wanting to fight, Shockey punched Roger for that remark and walked inside the school. Shockey came into the classroom late to Miss. Evens' desk. She recognized Shockey from that night at the hotel. Shockey sat down at his desk and Roger came in late. In the middle of History class, Roger made more nasty remarks about Shockey's background. Just as Roger's remarks get worse, Shockey punched Roger so hard that it was the beginning of a classroom fight. Miss. Evens got up from her desk to break up the fight and commanded to two students to follow her to Miss. Hodges' office to explain Shockey's fight with Roger.
Later in the afternoon, Shockey was sitting at his desk in the classroom feeling heartbroken and emotionally hurt until Miss. Evens walked to shockey and talked about his problems with him. They both walked out of the school to Shockey's house across the train tracks into the woods. Shockey got into the house to wake up his father out of bed so he can meet the new history teacher. Shockey invites Miss. Evens in the house and showed her pictures of his father when he was at war. Miss. Evens and Captain Fred Carter talked about how shockey started the fight. When they finished, Mary offered to help Shockey and his father clean their home. Shockey refused on the count of that the house will just get messy again. She gets Shockey to reconsider the favor and got the two cleaning up.
Meanwhile, Mary Evens and Shockey Carter walked to school from his house on the day of the schoolboard meeting about his behavior. At the meeting, Mr.Townsend says they should expel Shockey Carter and send him to the state school of corrections. Miss. Evens was shocked at him and says he needs kindness and understanding. As the schoolboard meeting continues, Shockey was leaning against a tree when Elvira comes over and talks to Shockey. She asked him if the schoolboard is going to expel him. Shockey replied she is speaking for him. Elvira teased Shockey and called him Miss. Evens' pet. Very offended, Shockey knocked Elvira's school books out of her hands. She convinced him a gentleman will pick up the books and apologize. Shockey crouched down on his knees, picked up the books and handed them to her and says, "Sorry." Elvira replied, "Thanks, Shockey." She admired just how strong Shockey is and says, "I think you're the strongest boy in the class." "Think so?", Shockey asked, "how would you like me to take a whack at some guy for you?" Miss. Evens came to Shockey and said, "Well, Shockey, they're not going to expell you. Isn't that fine, Elvira." "Yes," she said as Miss. Evens walked away. Shockey was asking Elvira out on a date but had a hard time putting the words together because he is so in love with her.
A big party was held at school for a benefit. Food was sold in combination boxes. Roger walked to Shockey and teasted more about about his father. Just as Shockey was about to punch Roger again, Elvira restrained his fist. Shockey came up with a better idea to get Roger to stop bothering him. He sneaikly grabbed a handful of ice cubes by the punch bowl and stuffed it down his shirt.
