The song was then recorded as a 1982 single by Williams' son, Hank Williams, Jr. This recording surpassed the popularity of the original, hitting #1 on the Billboard country music charts and staying there for a week. It spent a total of twelve weeks on the country chart.[1] "Honky Tonkin'" would be Hank Williams, Jr.'s sixth number one song on the country chart.
