Hongōdai Station (本郷台駅 Hongōdai-eki) is a railway station operated by JR East's Negishi Line located in Sakae-ku, Yokohama, Japan. It is 18.5 kilometers from the terminus of the Negishi Line at Yokohama Station and 77.6 kilometers from the terminus of the Keihin-Tōhoku Line at Ōmiya Station.

History

The area around Hongōdai Station was formerly part of a major Imperial Japanese Navy fuel depot, with a spur line connecting it to Ōfuna Station. In te post-war era, this became a large warehouse district known as the "Ōfuna PX", which supported the commissaries of the numerous American military facilities in surrounding area. The property was returned to the Japanese government by 1965 and developed into a housing district. The Japan National Railways (JNR) Keihin-Tōhoku Line was extended from its former terminus at Yōkōdai Station through to Ōfuna Station in 1973, and Hongōdai Station was opened on 9 April 1973. The station came under the management of JR East on April 1, 1987 after the privatization of the JNR.
