Homer Granville Vawter was Mayor of Jeffersonville, Indiana from 1939 to 1942. He was born in Tipton County, Indiana on May 28, 1894 to Samuel M. Vawter and Sara M. (McShane) Vawter. Homer's father was born in Stokes County, NC and his mother in Indiana. They settled in Tipton County, Indiana. His parents are buried in Tipton County at the Fairview Cemetery.

Homer married Mary Lucille Vawter on 28 Mar 1918, in Clark County, Indiana. Mary was his 4th cousin and her parents were James Mavity Vawter and Lura J. (Sanderson) Vawter. Their marriage date is unknown, but according to the 1920 census they were married and living alone in Newark, New Jersey. Then in the 1930 census they were recorded living in Jeffersonville, Indiana, where they lived with Mary's mother. There is no evidence from the census records that they had any children.

Homer settled in Jeffersonville, where he was the Republican Mayor from 1939 to 1942. Homer died on September 29, 1958 in Clark County, Indiana; he is buried with his wife and in-laws at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Jeffersonville.
