Holmview is a railway station on the Beenleigh Line of Brisbane, Australia. It is part of the Queensland Rail City network. The station serves the northern and western parts of Beenleigh. It is in Zone 7 of the TransLink integrated public transport system.

History

A railway station was established here in 1885.[1] It was named Holme View because it had a view of the Loganholme area. Holmview came into existence as part of the electrification and upgrade of the Kingston-Beenleigh segment of line, along with Edens Landing. It was the temporary Beenleigh Station during the excavation of the cuttings and tunnels in the centre of Beenleigh and relocation of the station to the east side of the roundabout. The temporary platform was redeveloped after the opening of the new Beenleigh Station, and named Holmview.[citation needed]

It is around one hundred metres south of the older platformless stop Holm's Halt, named for the pioneering Holm family.[citation needed] Holm's Halt was still in use for detraining but not passenger pick-up as recently as 1983 (mostly by members of the Holm family). This practice was discontinued with electrification and the end of Rail Motor services, as QR suburban electric trains are unsuited to discharging passengers at platformless stops.[citation needed]

Service

Holmview is served by the Beenleigh Line, a suburban regional rail line running south from Brisbane Central to Beenleigh.

In the northbound (Brisbane Central-bound) direction, trains make all stops to Brisbane, taking 62 minutes to arrive at Central station at an average of 37.8 km/h (23.5 mph).[2] During weekday peak times, some trains skip all stations between Sunnybank and Park Road apart from Coopers Plains and Yeerongpilly, shortening the trip time to 57 minutes at an average of 41.1 km/h (25.5 mph).[2] Trains heading northbound continue onto the Ferny Grove or Caboolture Lines.[2]

In the southbound (Beenleigh-bound) direction, Holmview is the penultimate stop. Trains continue to Beenleigh and take two minutes, averaging 30.0 km/h (18.6 mph).[2]
