Hockey Dad: A Play in 3 Periods is a Canadian play by Stephen Waldschmidt and James Popoff.[3] It is a comedy,[4] and was Burnt Thicket Theatre's first production,[5] followed by She Has a Name.[6] The premiere was performed at the Pacific Theatre in Vancouver, British Columbia on February 17, 2010. Further performances ran there until February 27.[7] The play was later performed in Red Deer, Alberta from October 27-30, 2010 at the Scott Block Theatre.[8] The titular character is Todd Williams.[9] While Todd was growing up, his father loved ice hockey and forced him to play the game from a very young age.[10] In the backstory of the play, Sarah, Todd's daughter, has signed him up for a father-daughter hockey game, but Todd swore off hockey years ago.[2] CFEQ-FM criticized the play for failing to evoke an emotional response in the audience.[1]
