History
HighCom is a Clearwater, Florida based defense company with operations throughout the United States and customers throughout the world. It was founded in 1997 in San Francisco. HighCom’s Research and Development, Manufacturing, and Distribution facility is located in Columbus, Ohio. It also works with other soft armor companies as a subcontractor, as well as a private label/OEM manufacturer, for military and law enforcement agencies.[1] The company is supplies the U.S. government and its allies with body armor and supplied thousands of pieces of armor to troops in the Iraq and Afghanistan theaters.[1][2] for armor and other equipment[3] and the United Nations[4].
The company offers hard armor plates, soft armor vests, ballistic helmets, ballistic shields, ballistic blankets, riot and civil defense equipment, as well as civilian armor products.[5] It also manufactures explosive ordinance disposal equipment — including EOD suits[6] — metal detectors, X-ray screening systems, X-ray screening simulators, metal detector simulators, and military and tactical equipment such as packs, uniforms and protective masks.[1] its product lines include Trooper Soft Armor, Guardian Hard Armor, Striker Ballistic Helmet, Bellfire Ballistic Shield, Stingray Ballistic Blanket, Rebel Riot Equipment, Scorpion Tactical Pouch, Commander General Duty, and Phoenix EOD Equipment.

On February 18 2011, Clearwater, Florida-based BlastGard International, a developer of proprietary blast mitigation materials, announced it would purchase HighCom[8][9]; the purchase was completed on March 16, 2011.[10]
Research & Development Ballistics Laboratory
HighCom has a state-of-the-art ballistic testing laboratory onsite in Columbus, Ohio which is used to support development and quality control of our soft body armor, helmets, shields, armor inserts, and tactical armor systems
HighCom’s ballistics lab is capable of performing the majority of the tests that are performed at certified ballistic labs around the world including all labs currently approved by the National Institute of Justice for external testing certification HighCom typically performs tests for V50 and V0; V50 is a statistical ballistic test and the velocity at which 50% of the shots go through and 50% are stopped by the armor. V0 is a ballistic test based on a specific projectile at a given velocity at the armor and has a 100% probability stopping the projectile or fragments.[11]
HighCom is capable of testing armor products to standards including: Mil-STD-662F V50, NATO STANAG 2920 FSP Testing, NATO STANAG 4569 Level 1-3, UL 752, NIJ 0101.04, NIJ 0101.06, NIJ 0106.01, NIJ 0108.01, and HOSDB standards.[11]
