Herāt University (Persian: پوهنتون هرات) is located in Herat, the capital of Herat Province, in western Afghanistan covering Herat, Badghis, Ghor and Farah Provinces. Herat University is a public institute of higher education, and was inaugurated in 1988, beginning with a faculty of Literature and Humanities.

Herat University has 14 faculties and 45 departments, the students are studying in different faculties and different fields. Right now Herat University has 334 faculty members and 10429 students.

Herat University 14th faculties are Agriculture, Applied Science, Computer Science, Economics, Education (Pedagogy), Engineering, Fine & Arts, Journalism, Law & political Science, Literature & Humanities, Medicine, Public Administration, Theology & Islamic Studies and Veterinary Science. The university offers degree programs on four campuses within the Herat and three sub Higher Education institutes in Farah, Ghor and Badqis.

Programs

Herat University offers a range of academic programs for credit, at the baccalaureate levels (over 100 majors) and 1 master program in terms of Dari Literature.
