Henry Allan Engelhardt (born 17 January 1958) is the founder and chief executive of Admiral Group, a British motor insurance company.

Career

Chicago-born Engelhardt was educated at the University of Michigan, and has a joint degree in journalism and radio, television and film.[1] He followed his French girlfriend (now wife) to Europe where he studied for an MBA at Insead.[1]

Engelhardt became part of the founding team at Churchill Insurance, where he developed his way of doing business.[2]

In 1993, he launched Admiral Group.[3] In 1999, he led a management buy out of the business[3] which has since become a constituent of the FTSE 100 Index.[4]

In September 2012, the Engelhardt family owned more than 14% of Admiral Group.[5]

Personal life

Engelhardt is married with four children, and lives in Cardiff, Wales.[6]
