Henry Deacon is a character on the American science fiction drama Eureka. He is played by Joe Morton.
Description
Formerly a space shuttle engineer for NASA, Henry is a jack-of-all-trades in the true sense of the word. He wears overalls with a Velcro patch to change his title due to whatever he is needed for at the moment since he is "officially" so many different city officials including but not limited to: mayor, forensics, mechanic, etc. He's the local mechanic for the town, which he simply does for fun, and is constantly inventing all sorts of devices. His devices tend to explode, malfunction, or otherwise misbehave in the trial stages, so much so in fact that any strange occurrence is usually attributed to him.
Aside from his mechanic job, he also performs most of the civil service jobs for the police department. He acts as both a forensic investigator and the coroner for Eureka, but he seems to have a new patch designating him as "Ballistics" or "Coroner", depending on the situation or problem at hand. In "H.O.U.S.E. Rules," it was revealed Henry was at some point Nathan Stark's teacher.
In "Before I Forget," Henry is reunited with a lost love, Kim Anderson (played by Tamlyn Tomita). They had a very brief romantic relationship years before, though Kim does not seem to remember it. Kim's husband Jason, a world-renowned scientist, stole a device erasing memories from Henry and his recollection of creating the device, as well as Kim's memory of their relationship. When Jason is exposed and the truth comes out, Kim remains with Henry in Eureka.
He seems to have a small pocket notebook to record anything interesting or groundbreaking that is going on in the show, for example, when the "Figure" is seen on the SARAH video tapes.
In the final moments of "Purple Haze," Henry makes an announcement during a town meeting that leaves Jack Carter and Allison Blake stunned — he has decided it is time for him to leave Eureka. He later realizes how much the town needs him and stays.
In "Once in a Lifetime," Kim is killed performing an investigation into "the Artifact". The story cuts from a major problem happening to four years later, and it is revealed Henry is now the head of Global Dynamics. Bizarre events start taking place, such as Jack's lost jeep appearing with three-years-old registration and a burned body appearing in one of the labs.
Kim begins DNA reconstruction on the body and discovers it's herself. It is revealed Henry had returned to GD in order to gain access to time travel technology so that he could travel back in time and save Kim, killed in the experiment shown at the beginning of the episode. This results in an unstable timeline that began to unravel. Kim convinces Henry the timeline has to be restored, and she assists Jack in traveling back in time to fix the problem (by keeping Henry from saving Kim).
In "Phoenix Rising", Henry erases all of Jack's memories from the alternate time line, using an improved version of the device introduced in "Before I Forget". Before he did so, he told Jack he would also erase his own, but after Jack leaves (now unaware of anything that happened), he destroys the device, saying "I will never forget."
Henry returns to Global Dynamics to resume Kim's work and learns Beverly Barlowe placed some sort of device in Kim's lab prior to the "accident". He teams up with Stark, fired from his position as head of GD because of the accident, to investigate what really happened. He is not aware Stark is working with Allison Blake, the new head of GD, to learn what the connection is between the artifact and Allison's son Kevin.
Due to an event where most of the residents of Eureka lose their intelligence, Henry apologizes to Jack for keeping secrets from him. Later, Jack remembers a fragment of the memory erased, and goes to Allison to get more information if he can. Allison and Stark realize if Jack can learn something is going on, so can the Department of Defense. Allison shuts down Henry's research to prevent him from making waves.
At the end of Season 2, Henry was arrested by the DOD, for causing a Level Red Bio-hazard Alert within the GD, although he did so to save Kevin's life.
He was pardoned in the second episode of Season 3 by Eva Thorne.
In the episode "I Do Over" Henry was the one who was to wed Nathan Stark and Allison Blake.
In "Here Comes The Suns", thanks to an inspiring speech during the crisis, a late write-in campaign orchestrated by Lexi Carter, and Jack's endorsement, Henry is elected Mayor of Eureka.
In "Welcome Back, Carter" he is able to decipher, with Jack's help, how to stop the gravitational pulls created in Eureka and is able to help Carter be reinstated in his job, since he reveals Carter can't be fired from his job as sheriff without written consent from the mayor of Eureka. Henry gets the help of the new sheriff, a robot named Andy, with this as everyone, including Andy, knows Carter is the right person for the job and Andy admits that after calculating Eureka's odds, the town has the best odds with Carter as sheriff.
In the season 4 premiere, Henry is among the residents of Eureka who go back in time to 1947. When they eventually return to the present, they realize their actions have altered the timeline, with Henry now married to a woman named Grace that he had only just met in the original timeline. At first he tries to act like the Henry that Grace married, but he eventually tells her about traveling to 1947 and the alternate timelines. Although rocky at first, they begin dating anew and seem to get along well. In Episode 8, Grace creates a device that links their minds and allows them to exchange memories from their alternate timelines.
