Headset (band)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Headset is the name of a musical studio project masterminded by Plug Research record label owner Allen Avanessian and electronic musician Jimmy Tamborello. Tamborello also performs solo as Dntel and is a member of The Postal Service.

The band's sound is a hybrid of minimal synthesizer and drum machine patterns, accented with underground rap artists providing their rhymes overtop the music. Their debut album Space Settings (2004) contained elements of electro, IDM and jazz music as well as hip-hop and earned musical comparisons to Autechre and Matmos.

Guest MCs appearing on the album include Beans (formerly of Antipop Consortium), Subtitle (of Th' Corn Gangg), Lady Dragon and Non-GENETIC (of Shadow Huntaz).

Space Settings was released by Avanessian on his Plug Research label.

They are sometimes confused with the group Headset and their song "Twisted Steel Leather Donut" which appeared in the Trey Parker and Matt Stone film Orgazmo.
