Haslingden High School is a secondary school located in Haslingden, Rossendale, England. The school has been awarded dual specialist status as an Arts College, Mathematics and Computing College.[citation needed] The school is fed by the many local primary schools, one of the largest being Haslingden Primary School.
History
The two schools in Haslingden that preceded the school were Haslingden Grammar School on Bury Road, which was knocked down in 1997 and turned into a housing development, and Haslingden County Secondary School on Ryefield Avenue.
Performance
OfSTED have produced an inspection report for Haslingden High School. It is accessible in PDF format.
In the most recent OfSTED Inspection the main school was awarded grade 1 all round (The highest - Outstanding). The Sixth Form was also graded as 'Outstanding' for Care, Advice and Guidance. Exam results have risen for the last five years, with increasing results in ICT, English Literature, Religious Studies and BTEC Sport. Former Headteacher Eve Challinger led the school to reach this status and the school remains an Outstanding one for all staff and students who attend.
It gets great GCSE results, well above the England average, and also good A-level results, for a comprehensive. It is one of the few Lancashire comprehensives with a sixth form.
Admissions
It is led by headteacher Mark Jackson, assisted by deputy headteacher Mrs G Middlemas. The school runs a Faculty system, each headed by a curriculum leader. The pastoral system at Haslingden High School is particularly strong with Heads of Lower, Middle and Upper schools leading learning mentors in each year group. The Sixth Form is led by Mr. Simon Heaton, Director of Sixth Form Studies. The Sixth Form at Haslingden is very much part of the main school and many of the school students go on to Post-16 study. However, students also join HHS Sixth Form from other local schools such as Bacup and Rawtenstall Grammar School, All Saints Catholic Language College in Rawtenstall, Fearns Community Sports College in Bacup and Alder Grange Community and Technology School.
