Harvey Walden IV (born December 21, 1966 in Chicago, Illinois) is a United States Marine, drill instructor and television celebrity. He is the great-grandson of Harvey Everett Walden, Sr. (1887–1978), pastor of Grant Memorial AME Church in Chicago from 1947 until his death at the age of 90.

Military career

Walden joined the U.S. Marine Corps at age 17 and completed boot camp at Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD), San Diego, California. He served as a Drill Instructor at MCRD, Parris Island, South Carolina, with platoons setting records in drill, fitness, and marksmanship skills. He retired from active duty in June 2007 at the rank of First Sergeant.[1] Walden was stationed at Quantico where he worked at Officer Candidate School during the summer making Marine Officers and Marine Corps University at the Command and Staff College and School of Advanced Warfighting (prior to his moving on to E Co. 4th Tank Bn in Fort Knox).

Post-active duty

Walden is best known in the UK and US for his role as the expert fitness instructor on VH1's and ITV's prime-time shows Fat Club and Celebrity Fit Club. In the 2007 season of Fit Club, during a heated exchange, contestant Dustin Diamond (the actor commonly known as Screech from Saved by the Bell) challenged Walden to "physical combat" after threatening Ant as well. Walden responded to the challenge after Dustin refused to follow their diet and exercise plans. Walden got agitated and threatened to "Beat [Dustins] ass.." when Dustin refused to leave the stage. Dustin responded that they could "set up a UFC match" and engage. Walden immediately went off on on Dustin, saying he would "wear his ass out".[2]

He is a father of two children; one boy, Harvey V and one girl, Tiyauna.[3] In 2009 Walden started supporting the UK charity Breakthrough Breast Cancer joining the Breakthrough Running Club as an online celebrity expert, offering training schedules and advice to runners of all standards .
