Harlech railway station is located at a level crossing on the A496 in the centre of the town of Harlech in Gwynedd, North Wales. The waiting shelters were installed to cater for the high numbers of schoolchildren commuting to and from neighbouring schools.[citation needed] The station is on the Cambrian Coast Railway with passenger services to Porthmadog, Pwllheli, Barmouth, Machynlleth and Shrewsbury. Until the 1960s there was a summer service between London Paddington and Pwllheli, via Birmingham Snow Hill, Shrewsbury and Machynlleth.
Services
Trains stop approximately once every 2 hours in each direction Mondays - Saturdays with only 1 train per day stopping on a Sunday.

History
As of January 2014, the line from Machynlleth is out of service for repairs due to storm damage between Tywyn & Barmouth and a replacement bus service is operating - this is likely to last until May 2014 as the formation north of Barmouth will need to be completely rebuilt.
Also the line northwards to Pwllhelli is closed until 2015 because of structural problems with the wooden viaduct at Pont Briwet caused by ongoing construction work on its intended replacement. The £20 million scheme is being carried out by Network Rail and Gwynedd County Council, with the new bridge being built a few metres downstream of the present one. Work to drive piles into the river bed to create foundations for the new viaduct have made the old one shift and rendered it unsafe for both trains and road traffic. Trains are starting & terminating at Harlech until the work is complete, with a replacement bus service in operation to Portmadog & Pwllhelli.
