Hariwon is a village development committee in Sarlahi District in the Janakpur Zone of south-eastern Nepal. At the time of the 1991 Nepal census it had a population of 11,912 people living in 2276 individual households.[1] The town is has received municipality status . It is the heart of terai-madhes region. The people of various, caste, creeds, religion reside with social harmony. .

Hariwan is home to the one of the most famous eye hospitals in the region.

Industries

Hariyon is the home of the Indushankar Chini Udhog Ltd. and Brijlal Chamal Udhog Ltd and is one of the main Business center of the District.

Country's leading sugar producing industry, Indushankar Chini Udyog was established in 1984 at Harion, Sarlahi of Nepal. The plant produces high quality sugar and its bi-product with a production capacity of 36,650 MT.

Market

Hariyon has a permanent market area which houses shops for Garment,Hardware,Cosmetics,Departmental Stores,DVD rentals,Travel agencies,Grocery shops,Hospital,Co-operative Finance companies, a couple of major banks and their ATMs. One can also use internet facilities in the market area. There is a bi-weekly market that is setup every Wednesday and Sunday. This are the days when most people from the surrounding areas come for the weekly shopping of groceries. With each passing day the number of shops in the market are growing along with the quality and variety of products that they offer.

Restaurants

One can find a variety of restaurants in Hariwan that provide all sorts of Nepalese,Indian and Chinese cuisines. One can also find few party places around which are used for occasions like marriage.

Transport

The most important National Highway in Nepal passes through Hariwon, the East-West Highway. Due to this most long route buses plying to major hubs in the country like Kathmandu,Pokhara,Birgunj,Biratnagar,Nepalgunj pass through Hariwon and so one can easily catch a bus to all the major parts of the country from Hariwon. For local transportation, tempos and Tata ace are popularly used.

Nearest airport is the Simara_Airport which is approximately 60 km. One can get flights to major destination in Nepal from this airport. Nearest railway station in Nepal is the Janakpur railway station which has only one train bound to Jayanagar in Bihar,India. The nearest railway station in India is the Raxaul Junction which has trains bound to places like New Delhi, Kolkata in India.
