Harir

Harir is an Kurdish village and a sub-district located in the district of Shaqlawa, Iraq,sub-district of Harir were established by displaced Assyrian families from the Nochiya Region. They moved to Harir, the village and the sub-district, because of the Assyrian genocide committed against Assyrian Christians within the Ottoman Empire. The village and sub-district of Harir is home to the famous Matran Family (family of Saint Mar Yosip Khnanishu X) which is from Nochiya.

The Sub-District

In the sub-district of Harir, we can find, still standing, the relics of the fourth century Assyrian churches of Mar Odisho and Mar Bawai in Darbandokeh. mostly of the population in harir is kurdish.
