Hans Zeiger

Hans Andreas Zeiger (born February 20, 1985) is the Representative for the 25th Legislative District of Washington.[1] A native of Puyallup, Washington, Zeiger is marginally known for his commentary on the Boy Scouts.

Early years

Zeiger attended Puyallup High School, graduating in 2003. There he was involved in student government, cross country, and debate. Further, he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout from Troop 174 in Puyallup. He also attended Evergreen Boys State (EBS); now he is a key note speaker for EBS.

Education

After graduating from Puyallup High School in 2003, Zeiger attended Hillsdale College in Hillsdale, Michigan. He graduated with a bachelor's of arts in American Studies in 2007. Later that year, Zeiger entered the Masters of Public Policy program at the Pepperdine University School of Public Policy. He graduated on April 17, 2009.

Career

Zeiger is a senior fellow at the American Civil Rights Union, a non-profit organization that promotes the U.S. Constitution. His articles have appeared in publications like the Seattle Times, San Francisco Chronicle, Philadelphia Inquirer, and Baltimore Sun. He profiled the South Hill Boy Scout troop that has been home to three generations of Zeigers for a recent cover story in American Legion magazine. Zeiger has written two books; Get Off My Honor: The Assault on the Boy Scouts of America][2] in 2005, and Reagan's Children: Taking Back the City on the Hill in 2006. In 2010, Hans was elected State Representative for the 25th Legislative District.

Recent

For several years, Zeiger has worked as an Assistant Scoutmaster with Troop 174. Also, in 2002 Hans served on the Puyallup Veteran’s Memorial Dedication Committee, and in 2007 he began a project to document the stories of Puyallup’s World War II veterans. In 2008 and 2009, Hans wrote a monthly column about "hometown heroes" in the Puyallup Herald.

Today his civic and volunteer activities include the boards of the One Another Foundation, the South Hill Historical Society, the William Ruckelshaus Center, Mainstream Republicans of Washington, and the Pierce County Developmental Disabilities Advisory Board. Hans is a member of the Kiwanis Club of Puyallup and he has volunteered with local history initiatives for the Ezra Meeker Historical Society and the Puyallup Fair Foundation.

Zeiger is the representative for the 25th Legislative District of Washington.[3] He serves on the Transportation, Higher Education, and Capital Budget Committees, and he was appointed to the Joint Legislative Audit and Review Committee.

Controversial statements

Zeiger wrote articles as a teenager in 2003 and 2004, including commentary on the Girl Scouts. He wrote on the website Intellectual Conservative, "The Girl Scouts allow homosexuals and atheists to join their ranks, and they have become a pro-abortion, feminist training corps." He has since removed many postings from the Internet that he claims no longer represent his current views.[4]
