Hans Spekman

Johannes Leonardus (Hans) Spekman (born April 6, 1966 in Zevenhuizen, Zuidplas) is a Dutch politician. As a member of the Labour Party (Partij van de Arbeid) he was an MP from November 30, 2006 to January 24, 2012. He focused on matters of alien and asylum policy, employment and social assistance policy, as well as poverty and benefit fraud control.

Spekman was a member of the municipal council of Utrecht from 1994 to 2001 and an alderman of the same municipality from 2001 to 2006. Since January 2012 Spekman is party chairperson of the Labour Party, succeeding Lilianne Ploumen.[1]
