Hà Nội T&T Football Club (Vietnamese: Câu lạc bô Bóng đá Hà Nội T&T) is a professional football club, based in Hanoi, Vietnam. They are now playing in V.League 1. The club is holding a national record for getting to the V.League 1 from the fourth tier of Vietnam League system with in 3 years.

The team is currently playing at Hàng Đẫy Stadium.

History

Under the sponsorship of T&T group, the club was established on 18th June, 2006. The first three seasons in their history, the club, under the management of coach Triệu Quang Hà, won promotion three time in a row and reached the top professional V.League 1 in 2009.

Third Division in 2006

In the first time the club entered the division, they won the promotion after beating Phú Yên 4-3 in the penalty shoot-out (two team draw 1-1 after extra time) in the play-off match. Hanoi T&T F.C. alongside Quân Khu 9 shared the 1st place of the division since there was no final and promoted to the Second Division.

Second Division in 2007

The Second Division has 16 teams, drawn in 3 tables based on their regions. Hanoi T&T F.C. was drawn in group A with another 4 teams. The club has struggled to win the 1st place of the group after a win against Quang Minh DEC. In the semi-final, Hanoi T&T F.C. beaten Ngói Đồng Tâm Long An (reserved team of Dong Tam Long An)3-1 and reached the final of the Division. They have lost the final after being defeated 2-4 in the penalty shoot-out (the result was 1-1 after extra time) by Quân Khu 7. However, they still got the promotion as one of the two teams that made it to the final.

V.League 2 in 2008

After they entered the V.League 2, the board decided to invest big amount of money in order to win promotion to the top league of Vietnam.

Many famous players have arrived such as, Vietnam international goalkeeper Dương Hồng Sơn or Phạm Như Thuần, Văn Sĩ Sơn, Under-23 Vietnam international defender Nguyễn Thành Long Giang alongside some Brazilian players such as Cristiano Roland, Cassiano.

The club started very well, being in top 3 most of the time. However, they still lost some games against their competitors because of lacking some experiences

In 2008, the club was in serious trouble after 5 of their players were discovered using drug in a hotel. While the case was still in investigation, the club punished everyone that involved in this scandal and Lê Hoàng Anh Thi was released by the board, 4 other players were banned 1 month. However, under pressure of the club's aim, they were only banned from one match and the club has received many criticize about its decision.

After the first leg of 2007/2008 season, Hanoi T&T F.C. gain the 1st place thanks to the unstable of the others.

On 16th August, 2008, Hanoi T&T F.C. officially promoted to V.League 1 1 round earlier after beating Quân Khu 5 4-2.

V.League 1

After the first leg of 2008/2009 seasons, Hanoi T&T F.C. was dropped in the bottom of the league. Due to bad results, coach Triệu Quang Hà and the director Lâm Hồng Điệp were sacked by the club. Two replacements were Nguyễn Hữu Thắng and Nguyễn Công Hội, member of T&T group. They also linked with some quality players to avoid being relegated.

After the difficult time, the club has made an amazing come back in the second leg, finished in the 4th place of V.League 1, in some moments, they were considered as a title challenger.

During the 2009/2010 season, Hanoi T&T F.C. made an outstanding performance. It helped them win the first V.League 1 title in the history with 1 point clear from the runner-up Xi măng Hải Phòng. Hanoi T&T F.C.'s victory was the first time in 12 years since a club from Hanoi won the title.

They also invested on the youth team by taking-over the youth team of Thể Công - now known as Hanoi Football club currently playing in the V.League 2.

In the 2010/2011 season, Hanoi T&T F.C. finished in 2nd place after they can only earn 1 point against Sông Lam Nghệ An F.C. - who became the champions after that, in the last match of the season. However, they still won Vietnam Super Cup after beating Sông Lam Nghệ An F.C..

The 2011/2012 campaign happened the same way, they became the runner up after losing some important match against other title challengers. However, the club started to receive some recognition and compliment for their wonderful team play with many skillful players. Hanoi T&T F.C. also reached the final of Vietnamese Cup but lost 1-4 to Xuan Thanh Sai Gon F.C. side

During the 2012/2013 campaign, Hanoi T&T F.C. was the leading team most of the time. As the result, they won the title 1 round earlier as the most goal scoring team of the season.

Rival

Hanoi T&T F.C.'s rival was Câu lạc bộ bóng đá Hà Nội. However, they are always considered a better team than their rival. In 2011, Lê Công Vinh transfer from Hanoi T&T F.C. to Câu lạc bộ bóng đá Hà Nội has increased the hostile between two teams. Two derby matches in 2011/2012 season happened in violence and stress. After Câu lạc bộ bóng đá Hà Nội resigned in 2012 due to their owner was in trouble, Hanoi T&T F.C. quickly signed star player Phạm Thành Lương from their rival. Since then, Sông Lam Nghệ An F.C. has became their main rival since two teams both compete for the title. Many players with Nghệ An decent in Hanoi T&T F.C. squad has received many criticisms when two team facing each other.
