It is part of Hanley civil parish.[1]

Hanley William was in the upper division of Doddingtree Hundred. [2]

Air Strip

There is a small, private airfield (ICAO airport code: XHAN)[3] with a single 600m long grass runway, called the Hanley William Air Strip.[4]
