Hands Like Houses is an Australian rock band from Canberra, Australia. Formed in 2008, the group is currently signed to Rise Records.[1] Their debut album, Ground Dweller, was released on 13 March 2012 and charted at number 141 on the Billboard Top 200 and number 2 on the Billboard Heatseekers Chart.[2] Their sophomore album, Unimagine, was released on 23 July 2013, during their route on Warped Tour.
History
Formation (2008–2011)
Formed in 2008 from the remnants of other local bands, So Long Safety and Eternal Debut, the band traveled to Chango Studios to record material for a self-titled EP with producer Cameron Mizell. However, the EP never was released and the band decided to re-record some of the tracks and record six new tracks for a full-length album. In 2011, the band released singles for "This Ain't No Place for Animals" and "Lion Skin" (which features a few differences from the one included in their full-length) on iTunes, garnering over 5,000 single sales. They also released a demo version of "One Hundred" in their PureVolume profile.
Ground Dweller and Snow Sessions EP (2012–2013)
On 4 January 2012, the band announced that they had signed to Rise Records.[1] On 7 January, the band released the artwork for Ground Dweller as well as announced the 13 March release date for the album.[3] Then, on 11 March, two days before the release of Ground Dweller, the band streamed the entire album on the Alternative Press website.[4] Ground Dweller was released on 13 March 2012. It debuted at No. 141 on the Billboard Top 200 and number 2 on the Billboard Heatseekers Chart.[2] and has been generally well received. On 2 May 2012, Hands Like Houses embarked on their first ever tour of the US on the Rise Records' The Freshman Class of '12 Tour supporting The Air I Breathe, Palisades and My Ticket Home.[5] On 16 April 2012, the band posted a trailer on the official YouTube channel anouncing a video EP named Snow Sessions. This video EP contain acoustic performances of some songs from Ground Dweller and was released through their YouTube channel on 23 April. The band recently completed the Scream It Like You Mean It Tour in the United States with We Came as Romans and Attack Attack! and toured fall of 2012 with Pierce the Veil and Sleeping with Sirens on the Collide with the Sky Tour. They are joining Pierce the Veil and Woe, Is Me of May/June 2013. On 27 December 2012, the band posted a link to a Gumroad page where fans could download the audio files of Snow Sessions EP entering their e-mail addresses.
Unimagine (2013–present)
On 13 February 2013, the band revealed they were currently writing new material for their next album.[6] Rise posted a status that the new album would be released in July. Throughout their UK tour with Pierce the Veil and Woe, Is Me, the band started playing a new song mid-set. On 6 June 2013, the band announced via their Facebook account that their sophomore album, titled Unimagine, will be released on 23 July via Rise Records and also, that the album's first single, "Introduced Species", will be released 12 June.[7] On 12 June, the band released the song as planned and also put up pre-order bundles for their then upcoming album, Unimagine. The band played the entire 2013 Vans Warped Tour on the #Domo Stage.
