Han Seok-bong was a leading mid-Joseon period calligrapher. He composed calligraphy for the royal court of Korea.

Born in Songdo in the early sixteenth century,^[1] in the reign of King Jungjong, Han became a master calligrapher and the primary transcriber for the next king of Joseon, Seonjo. During his lifetime, his fame for calligrapher spread through all the land and even to China.^[2] One of his famous works is the Dosan-Seowon.^[3]

Place of death	Folk Tale associated with this Famous Historical Figure Han's mother tested her son's calligraphy skills one night by blowing out the candle light by which he was working. Sitting next to him in the dark, she told him to continue drawing while she cut her rice cakes. When the candle was relit they compared each other's work. Least to say Han's Calligraphy was terrible, sloopy and crooked. However, his mother's rice cakes had been sliced perfectly with the knife, like always. Upon seeing this Han understood that he still had to strive to improve his craft.
