Hamish A. Jenkinson (born October 18, 1977) is a Chairman of Free the Children UK, Trustee of the Kevin Spacey Foundation and Director of the Old Vic Tunnels. He has been the Executive Assistant to Kevin Spacey since 2005.[1] In 2011, he joined the board of Belarus Free Theatre.[2][3] Jenkinson has also recently been appointed an ambassador for The Prince’s Trust.[4]

Early years

He received a Waldorf education at the Rudolf Steiner School Kings Langley,[5] graduating in 1997, and studied Drama at the University of Birmingham.

Career

After graduating in 2001, Jenkinson started working for Madonna and Guy Ritchie as their Personal Assistant.[6] One of the many films he assisted Madonna on was Die Another Day. In 2005, shortly after Kevin Spacey had taken over as Artistic Director of the Old Vic Theatre, Jenkinson joined him as his Executive Assistant. He is credited as Spacey's Assistant on various films, including Superman Returns, 21 and The Men Who Stare at Goats. In 2006, he directed the short film The Interrogation of Leo and Lisa starring Kevin Spacey, Thandie Newton and Elliot Cowan. In 2008, Jenkinson became the Director of The Old Vic Tunnels.[7][8]

The Old Vic Tunnels

In 2010 the Old Vic Theatre officially acquired a new performance space beneath Waterloo Train station from BRB (Residuary) formerly British Rail.[9] Since being appointed as the Director, Jenkinson has worked on cutting-edge projects with the likes of Banksy and Punchdrunk. Most recently, the space played host to Minotaur - a critically acclaimed dining experience in the form of a Michelin Star pop-up restaurant and a unique collaboration of theatre, visual art, film and food. This was pioneered by Jenkinson, Kofler & Kompanie, Pret a Diner and gallerist Steve Lazarides.[10] In May 2012, the Clinton Foundation hosted a fundraiser at the Old Vic Tunnels. President Bill Clinton co-hosted the event with actress Gwyneth Paltrow and Black Eyed Peas singer will.i.am[11][12]

In 2011, the Old Vic Tunnels won the British Prime Minister’s “Big Society Award” for its successful Volunteer Scheme.[13]

Charity work

As an appointed Trustee Jenkinson helped Spacey form The Kevin Spacey Foundation in 2011.[14] He is also Chairman of Free The Children UK - An organization which has built over 650 schools in the developing world.[15]

Awards

In 2012 Jenkinson was awarded the h.Club100 in the performance category. The award is given to the: "Most original and influential people in the UK creative and media industries", according to TimeOut.com[16]

Sunday Wise

In November 2012 Mr Jenkinson has launched a new cerebral Sunday lunch experience together with Valerie Coward. He describes it as: "A cerebral new Sunday Lunch experience with topical news from leading commentators, sharp satirical comedy and some slinky Sunday jazz."[17]

UEFA Champions League

Hamish and his business partner Jonny Grant (Irresistible Films) have first directed the UEFA Champions League Final Opening Ceremony in 2011 at Wembley.[18] The UEFA asked them to direct the Opening Ceremony in 2013 again. This time their production was much larger, involving much of the team behind the London 2012 Olympics.[19]

Other Work

In 2005, Jenkinson was awarded the Urban Music Awards in the Category “Best Video” for his Direction.
