Hale Isaac Appleman (born January 17, 1986) is an American actor. Best known for playing Tobey Cobb in the 2007 film Teeth, Appleman made his film debut in Chad Lowe's feature, Beautiful Ohio, and portrayed cartoonist Judd Winick in Pedro, Nick Oceano's 2008 film dramatizing the life of AIDS educator Pedro Zamora, penned by Dustin Lance Black. Other credits include Mercutio in Private Romeo, and the short film Oysters Rockefeller, written and directed by Charles Rogers.
Appleman's credits on stage include the revival of David Rabe's Vietnam War drama Streamers at the Roundabout Theater Company, Clifford Odets' Paradise Lost at the American Repertory Theater, and the New York premiere of Sarah Ruhl's Passion Play as Jesus. In 2011 he played Bob in Michael Weller's Moonchildren at the Berkshire Theatre Festival, directed by Karen Allen, and can be heard on the L.A. Theatre Works recording of Sam Shepard's Pulitzer Prize-winning Buried Child, opposite Amy Madigan, Jeff Perry, and Madeleine Zima. Hale was most recently seen at The Old Globe Theater as Mercutio in "The Last Goodbye", a new musical hybrid fusing the text of Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet" and the iconic music of the legendary "Jeff Buckley". The show's creative team includes Alex Timbers and Sonya Tayeh.
Hale played 'Zach' on the NBC dramatic series Smash.
