History

Trains HRCS2 purchased Ukrainian Railways in preparation for the football championship UEFA Euro 2012 for passenger traffic between the cities that will host sporting events. Value of the contract for the purchase of 10 trains of $ 307 million (the original contract was also assumed to purchase four diesel trains for additional $ 43 million).

South Korean train was delivered to the cargo ship in the port of Odessa Commercial Sea March 11, 2012. HRCS2-002 was reactivate RPCh-9 in Odessa Zastava-1 and sent to the RED HF-1 Kharkiv-Sorting, arriving on March 16 under the locomotive DS3-013 and TEP150-003 for further maintenance and acceptance testing, planned for April–May. March 17 in Kharkiv came second train of the same series (HRCS2-001). HRCS2-003 and HRCS2-004 arrived in the port of Odessa April 9, 2012 and April 15, arrived in RED HF-1 Kharkiv. Arrival of the fifth and sixth place in the first week of May. Commissioning of the six is scheduled on or before June 1, 2012. The remaining four trains will be delivered to the customer during July – August 2012.

The intercity trains are referred to in Ukraine as Intersiti and Intersiti+.[1] The trains had not undergone full-scale four-season tests, as is usually done in the railway sector.[2]

In December 2012 the trains broke down on a daily basis, due to the cold weather.[3] This lead to criticism/regret by passengers and President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych that the train was bought.[2] Hyundai Rotem offered its apologies to Ukrainian passengers, citing its "first winter in the country".[4] The company will have its own team of engineers in Ukraine till 2018.[2] Early October 2013 the company guaranteed "continuous operation" of the Intercity+ trains in the coming autumn and winter.[5]

Description

Electric train is designed to carry passengers on electrified lines with a nominal voltage of the contact network of 25 kV AC, 50 Hz and 3 kV DC, with a width of 1520 mm, the high-speed communication. Service speed trains to 160 km/h.

On each trailer car uses two asymmetric collector manufactured LEKOV and one of the main transformer, each of which feeds the two adjacent transducers cars.

At each brain and motor cars have four asynchronous traction motor rated power of 250 kW (connected to four parallel groups) that are powered by 4QS converter and inverter.

The car body is based on the trolley through the air springs.

Composition

Train formed of two head, three trailers and four motor cars under the scheme: Mc1+T+MB+M2+T+M1+M2+T+Mc2

The number of cars in the nine trains (one of the temporary six-car for the route with the least number of passengers). Provides for operation of two articulated trains. The train has a two-class cars, "first class" and "second class", all places sedentary. First-class carriage – 2, 5, 8, and the second – 1, 3, 4, 6, 7, 9. In the first-class carriage, two armchairs arranged in two rows in the standard cars – two and three in the two series. The total number of seats in the train – 579. Locations are in the I class trailer cars (three cars on 56 seats each), and Class II in six motor cars. Two seats for the disabled are the first head coach.

Exploitation

Electric operated in Lviv, Southwestern, Southern, Donetsk, and Dnieper railways.

Trains run daily in the following areas:

  • Kyiv-Kharkiv-Kyiv (morning, evening) and additionally on Friday afternoon
  • Kyiv-Donetsk-Kyiv (morning, evening, night)
  • Kyiv-Lviv (in the evening), Lviv-Kyiv (in the morning)
  • Kyiv-Dnipropetrovsk (morning, evening).
