History

HCL Technologies is one of two companies under HCL Enterprise - a global technology and IT company with annual revenues of over US$ 6.3 billion. The second company is HCL Infosystems. HCL Enterprise developed India’s first indigenous micro-computer at the same time as Apple. The company has been a leader in technological innovation with many world firsts to its credit, including the first Relational Database Management System (RDMS) in 1983, client-server architecture in 1984, and fine-grained multiprocessor UNIX installation in 1989.[6] HCL Enterprise's R&D division was spun off as HCL Technologies in 1991 to mark its advent into the software services arena.

Recent Recognition
HCL won the Asia-Pacific Enterprise Leadership Award[29] (APELA) for 2013. This award recognizes and honors the achievements of companies in the areas of sustainable development, corporate responsibility, and/or corporate social responsibility (CSR). HCL was also the only Indian Company on the Honor Roll of the UN Women Women Empowerment Leadership Awards[30] for 2013. Go Green: HCL runs a multi-layered corporate program ‘Go Green’ to drive its sustainability initiatives. It has green processes across facilities & in the areas of travel, IT and events. The company commits to compliance with ISO 14001 standards.[31] It runs campaigns to initiate individual action towards environmental issues.[32] It has designed and developed a comprehensive GreenEdge sustainability framework that caters to the specific needs of manufacturing industries.[33]
