Gustav Svensson (born 9 February 1987 in Gothenburg) is a Swedish football midfielder and defender, currently playing for Tavriya Simferopol in the Ukrainian Premier League. He played for a local team in Gothenburg as well as a French team in his youth but joined IFK Göteborg at the age of 14. He has played there since and won the Swedish Championship with the club in 2007. Gustav was nominated as the Rookie of the Year in Swedish football the same season but lost out to Johan Oremo.

Club career

Bursaspor

On 1 September 2010, he signed a 3-year contract with 2009–10 Süper Lig champions Bursaspor.[1]

Tavriya Simferopol

On 7 July 2012, signed a 3-year contract with Ukrainian club Tavriya Simferopol.[2]

Swedish national football team

Gustav Svensson usually plays as a central midfielder but has also been playing centre back and full back from time to time, including some of the nine caps for the Sweden under-21 team.

Family

Gustav Svensson has two older sisters. Ellen and Maria Svensson along with a younger brother Olof Svensson. Olof Svensson has been recruited overseas to the United States to play in a competitive Division II Soccer team in Long Island, New York. Olof starts as a Center Back or Center Midfielder for Long Island University, C.W. Post Pioneers. #2 Svensson has started 8 out of 11 games played. Out of 8 shots Olof has registered 1 goal totalling 2 points.

On 5 February 2011, he and his ex-team mate Mathias Ranégie who is BK Häcken's striker, was involved in an incident in which Mathias Ranégie was allegedly assaulted by group of girls in a café in Gothenborg (courtcase still pending).[3]
