Biography

Gurpareet Bains is originally from Bedford, but now lives in London.[5] Bains first became interested in cooking as a child.[6] He was educated at Stratton Upper School, Biggleswade, and studied A Levels in Politics and Sociology at Bedford College.[7]

Early career

After college, Bains ventured to Australia, where he studied hospitality.[7] He ended up running his own restaurant - Planet Bollywood - in Marmaris,[6] and acting as an international culinary consultant for the Mövenpick chain of hotels.[6][7]

Indian superfood

Bains claims to be a pioneer of Indian superfood.[8] In October 2009, Bains unveiled what he claims to be the "World's Healthiest Meal".[1] The dish - a chicken and blueberry curry with goji berry pilau rice - blends traditional ingredients which he claimed can "help stave off everything from cancer to Alzheimer's disease". In 2009 Gurpareet claimed to have created a cocktail that could help cure hangovers. The cocktail, which includes Christmas-spice infused vodka, Cointreau, acai and pomegranate juice, is “about helping people have a good time without having to pay for it the following morning.”[9] The cocktail is said to reduce the risk of a hangover by “cleaning” the bloodstream.[10]

In 2006, Bains hosted his own show - Chef's Special - on Raj TV,[11] Sky Channel 187,[12] and has appeared on STV[13] with his creations.
