Gunpo is a city in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. It is part of the Seoul National Capital Area. Its largest immediate urban neighbor is Suwon. Hansei University is located in the city.
Seoul Subway Line 1, which connects Seoul with Cheonan, passes through the town, as does Line 4, which intersects with Line 1 at Geumjeong Station. In addition, the city is home to Gunpo Station and Dangjeong Station, which stands on the Gyeongbu Line which runs between Seoul and Busan.
In Gunpo, there are dongs that means separated regions. Sanbon-dong, Danjeong-dong, Geumjeong-dong and Dang-dong are existed.
History
January 1, 1989 Gunpo Was installed to control Siheunggun Gunpo town (5 beopjeongdong) 6 Administrative dong - Gunpo 1 dong, Gunpo 2 dong, Dangjeongdong, Sanbon 1-dong, 2-dong Geumjeongdong. May 1, 1992 Geumjeongdong was divided into Geumjeongdong and Jaegungdong. January 14, 1993 jaegungdong was divided into Jaegungdong and Ogeumdong. June 8, 1993 Sanbon 2-dong was divided into Sanbon 2-dong and Suridong. July 19, 1994 Sanbon 2-dong was divided into Sanbon 2-dong and Gungnaedong. December 26, 1994 Portion of Hwaseong-gun Banwol was incorporated as Gunpo. Daeyadong was installed as an administrative dong. February 28, 1995 Sanbon 2-dong was divided into Sanbon 2-dong and Gwangjeongdong. October 1, 18 Gunpo 1 dong and Dangjeongdong were merged into Gunpo 1 dong.

Sights
There are only few sightseeing places. Gunpo was originally a settlement where horses were exchanged, but became a boom town. Sanbon newtown apartments are built in East of Suri mountain since Seoul population explosion. As a tourist spot, Surisan and Banwol reservoir are representative natural resources.
Suri mountain that its length is about 500m is famous for Gunpo although it is close to Anyang. Various climbing courses are made like X. and many people visit Banwol reservoir as its landscape is wonderful.
Festivals
Many festivals are held in Gunpo everyear. Subject of festivals are various. 'royal azalea festival','book festival' and so on.
- Royan azalea festival : It is held in May that is blooming Royan azalea season. In festival, citizens do performance like sing of dance. and people can take pictures with flowers.
