Guilty Gear X (ギルティギア ゼクス Giruti Gia Zekusu, pronounced "guilty gear zex"[1]), subtitled By Your Side, is the second full game in the Guilty Gear series. It was released in multiple versions:

  • Guilty Gear X (ギルティギア ゼクス Giruti Gia Zekusu)
  • Guilty Gear X Plus (ギルティギア ゼクスプラス Giruti Gia Zekusu Purasu)
  • Guilty Gear X: Advance Edition (ギルティギア ゼクス アドバンスエディション Giruti Gia Zekusu Adobansu Edishon)
  • Guilty Gear X ver 1.5

This game takes place a few weeks after the first game. A new Commander Gear was discovered by the name Dizzy. Worried that a second War would start, another Holy Knights Tournament was started. The person who could capture and kill this Gear would be rewarded 500,000 World Dollars.

The original Dreamcast version was first released as a limited edition with a special mini-CD. This mini-CD came in three variants, each of which contained two different artworks that can be viewed on a PC, and one specially-selected music track from the game. All three versions of the mini-cd are marked as "Type-A", "Type-B", and "Type-C", and have different artwork on the face of the disc. Additionally, the image found on the GD-ROM differs from the image found on the regular edition's GD-ROM.

Plus

Guilty Gear X Plus is an enhanced port of the original game, containing two extra characters and a gallery. It was released on the PS2 on November 29, 2001 in Japan only. The PS2 version released in the United States and Europe is simply a bare-bones port of the Dreamcast version, and does not contain the added features found in the Japanese release.

New characters include Kliff Undersn and Justice. Each character includes 3 different modes: Normal, Extra and G.G.. Each version gives a different set of moves. Extra and G.G. versions of fighters can be unlocked by beating the respective versions of characters in survival mode. In addition to 3 character modes, black select and gold select versions of the characters can be chosen independently for increased powers. Story Mode was also enhanced, and a password mode was added that utilized codes found in Guilty Gear Petit 2.

Ver 1.5

A port of the arcade game for the Atomiswave platform, released at around 2003. It adds moves from home versions and some elements from the game's sequel Guilty Gear XX, with readjusted difficulty. Testament and Dizzy are unlocked.

The game was first unveiled in AOU2003 Amusement Expo.

Advance Edition

Advance Edition was released for the Game Boy Advance on January 25, 2002. Based on the original arcade game, it adds tag, survival, training, and 3-on-3 game modes. Game controls can be set to 3 or 4-button mode.

It includes all fighters from the arcade version except Robo-Ky. However, Ky Kiske's extra version uses Robo-Ky's "beta" moveset.

The 3-mode character selection from X Plus is included with this release. Characters can be edited to any colours, but do not inherit black select and gold select powers as in the X Plus game.

Club/Raid of Arms

The Guilty Gear Club is an online game site designed for the i-mode mobile phone platform. It includes downloadable content such as ring tones, voices, comics, mini-games, and the Raid of Arms fighting game.

The Raid of Arms fighting game is designed based on the Guilty Gear X series. Available fighters include Sol Badguy, Ky Kiske, May, Baiken, Potemkin, Chipp Zanuff, Millia Rage, Zato-1, Axl Low, Baldhead, Kliff, and ES-Watt.

The Tension Gauge was renamed the Chaos Gauge.

Reception

On release, Famitsu magazine scored the Dreamcast version of the game a 31 out of 40,[2] and the PlayStation 2's Plus version a 32 out of 40.[3]

GameRankings currently scores Guilty Gear X an average of 80%.
