Grigori Yakovlevich Kriss (Russian: Григорий Яковлевич Крисс) (born December 24, 1940,[1] in Kiev, in the Ukrainian SSR of the Soviet Union) was a Soviet Russian world champion epee fencer.
Fencing career
He trained at the Armed Forces sports society in Kiev.[1] Kriss was a member of the USSR National Team between 1963 and 1973.[2]
World Championships
In World Championships competition, Kriss won the Individual Épée silver medal in 1967, and Individual gold medal in 1971.
He won 4 World Team Épée medals: bronze in 1965, silver in 1966, gold in 1969, and silver in 1971.
Olympics
Kriss won 4 Olympic medals in three Olympiads.[3][4]
He won a gold medal in Individual Epee at the 1964 Games.
In 1968, he earned silvers in both the Individual Épée and Team Épée events.
In 1972, Kriss won a bronze medal in Team Épée.
Hall of Fame
Kriss, who is Jewish,[5] was inducted into the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in 1989.
