Cast
- Greylock - The title character. He begins merely as Les's roommate, but soon becomes the central focus of the plot.
- Lesterfarr - Les is Greylock's roommate and the primary character in early chapters. He is the first person Bilmar opens up to and the first to learn his history. In later chapters his role is reduced to secondary cast.
- Bilmar - An alien captured by a professor at the university. He pretends to be mute and dumb in order to avoid attention, but is in fact a very intelligent being. He comes from a timid race of creatures who are hunted by predators on their homeworld.
