Great Hearts Academies is a non-profit charter school management organization which operates several charter school "preparatory academies" (grades K to 12) in the Phoenix, Arizona metropolitan area.

Archway Classical programs for grades K-5 are available at most of these school sites.

Additionally, Great Hearts has filed to replicate the Veritas charter for Maryvale (Maryvale Preparatory Academy), Litchfield Park (Litchfield Preparatory Academy),and Ahwatukee (Arete Preparatory Academy) with the Arizona State Board for Charter Schools.[1] Each of these schools would have a proposed capacity of about 350 students.

Results

Great Hearts' students score near the highest in the state on standardized tests, with nationally-norm referenced test performance across grades and subjects typically in the 80th to 95th percentile.[citation needed]

Grade-by-grade results of 2010 AIMS tests show that higher percentages of Great Hearts students excel across all test subjects:[citation needed] • 55% of Great Hearts sixth-graders systemwide exceeded state standards in math compared with 23% statewide. In reading, 21% of Great Hearts sixth-graders exceeded standards vs. 8% statewide. In writing 34% of Great Hearts sixth-graders exceeded standards vs. 13% statewide. • 55% of Great Hearts seventh-graders systemwide exceeded state standards in math compared with 24% statewide. In reading, 26% of Great Hearts seventh-graders exceeded standards vs. 10% statewide. In writing 15% of Great Hearts seventh-graders exceeded standards vs. 6% statewide. • 51% of Great Hearts eighth-graders systemwide exceeded state standards in math compared with 20% statewide. In reading, 21% of Great Hearts eighth-graders exceeded standards vs. 6% statewide. In science 70% of Great Hearts eighth-graders exceeded standards vs. 33% statewide. • 74% of Great Hearts 10th-graders systemwide exceeded state standards in math compared with 23% statewide. In reading, 50% of Great Hearts 10th-graders exceeded standards vs. 11% statewide. In writing 52% of Great Hearts 10th-graders exceeded standards vs. 14% statewide.

Over the past six years, the average Great Hearts student has scored between 600 and 690 on each of the SAT subtests (Reading, Mathematics, and Writing).[citation needed]

Nearly 19% of Great Hearts graduates are recognized by the National Merit Foundation. Over the past five years, 10% of Great Hearts graduates have received National Merit Scholarships.[citation needed]

Over 90% of Great Hearts graduates attend 4-year colleges after graduation, more than 55% of them on full or partial scholarships, and about 70% of Great Hearts graduates are admitted to “more” or “most” selective colleges and universities. Of the Great Hearts graduates who attend Arizona State, nearly a third are admitted to their Honors program, Barrett, The Honors College.[citation needed]
