Granville Technology Group Ltd was a British computer retailer based in Simonstone, near Burnley, Lancashire.
Selling computers under several brands - Time; Tiny; Colossus; MJN - it sold mainly through mail-order, though late in its life added a chain of stores in the UK that traded as The Computer Shop, which rapidly grew to over 300 stores.
However, the company also went into receivership at the end of July 2005, due to the fall in demand for personal computers, at which time it employed 1,600 people and was one of the largest retailers of computers in Britain,[1] which were produced by the Time Factory located at the same site.
Time UK Factory
This was the main supplier for Granville Technology and was the actual manufacturer of products re-sold by Granville - Computers, Notebooks and Flat Screen TVs. The company is continuing to support consumers that purchased Time products from Granville Technology Group Ltd. The Time brand is currently licenced to Time UK.
Rescue
Just weeks before the company went into receivership, the Metro Interactive Design group owned by Glenn Bluff with brands including PC Service Centre, Drivermagic, ehelp4u, HijackThisPro PC Trouble, computerhope UK and askDrtech attempted to enter the retail market by entering a joint venture with the Computer Shop. The potential rescue would have meant Metro ID would operate an in-store repair centre called PCservicecentre.com and offer installations at home similar to the offering of PC World's Know-how business. The company was also going to operate its famous No Fix, No Fee repair policy.
