The Grand Prix Stakes is a Brisbane Racing Club Group 3 Australian Thoroughbred horse race held under set weights with penalties conditions, for horses aged three years old, over a distance of 2200 metres held at Doomben Racecourse in Brisbane, Queensland in May.[1] Total prize money is A$150,000.

Race history

The race is considered by many to be the major prep leadup up event for the Group 1 Queensland Derby.[1]
When the race was held at Eagle Farm it was held in late May or early June. Since 2010 in has been moved to earlier in the BRC Winter Carnival.[2] The race has lost some of its prestige since it was been downgraded in 2006 and stakemoney is far less than the $300,000 in 2001.[3]

Lefroy (1978), Double Century (1979), Kingston Town (1980), Mr. Cromwell (1981), Our Planet (1982), Librici (1984), Handy Proverb (1986), Hidden Rhythm (1989), Dorset Downs (1991), Air Seattle (1993), Half Hennessy (2003), Ice Chariot (2006) and Brambles (2012)

The race has had several changes in distance.[4]
