Gorny District (Russian: Го́рный улу́с; Sakha: Горнай улууһа) is an administrative[1] and municipal[3] district (raion, or ulus), one of the thirty-four in the Sakha Republic, Russia. It is located in the center of the republic and borders with Vilyuysky and Kobyaysky Districts in the north, Namsky District and the territory of the city of republic significance of Yakutsk in the east, Khangalassky District in the south, Olyokminsky District in the southwest, and with Verkhnevilyuysky District in the west. The area of the district is 45,600 square kilometers (17,600 sq mi).[2] Its administrative center is the rural locality (a selo) of Berdigestyakh.[2] Population: 11,706 (2010 Census);[5] 11,422 (2002 Census);[9] 10,034 (1989 Census).[10] The population of Berdigestyakh accounts for 55.2% of the district's total population.[5]

Geography

The main rivers in the district are the Sinyaya and the Sitte, both of which are left tributaries of the Lena.

Climate

Average January temperature ranges from −36 °C (−33 °F) in the west to −40 °C (−40 °F) in the east and average July temperature is +16–+17 °C (61–63 °F). Average annual precipitation is 200–250 millimeters (7.9–9.8 in).[8]

The district was established on June 25, 1931.[8]
