Golden Hillock School is a coeducational secondary school located in Sparkhill in the centre of Birmingham in England.[1] It was established in 1910 and educates just under 900 pupils. Up until 2013 the school had houses and a VT system. The houses were: CADBURY (green), HAMMOND (orange), TOLKIEN (red), CHAMBERLAIN (yellow) and JORDAN (blue) "aka HENRY". The VT system which stands for Vertical Tutor was a group of about 20 pupils in each class, 4 from each year, 2 boys and 2 girls. There were 9 VT's in each house. This was disbanded from September 2013. The school now has FORM system which has about roughly 25 students in each. There is GO L D E N H S. Every year group has this. The head teacher (who took his position in April 2013) is Mr Saini.[1]He was appointed after the former head teacher Matthew Scarrott resigned with immediate effect just before Easter.
The school has a higher than average number of pupils eligible for free school meals and has a high proportion of ethnic minority pupils.[1] Ofsted reported in 2011 that "almost all of the school population come from minority ethnic backgrounds including Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Yemeni and Somali heritages and most speak English as an additional language."[1] The school, which is described as "fully accessible"[1] also has a higher than average number of pupils with educational needs or disabilities and has local authority managed provision for ten pupils with physical disabilities.[1]
The school became a specialist sports college in 2000. [1] On 1st October 2013 the school became an academy sponsored by Park View Educational Trust.
