Glyndwr "Glyn" R. Turner (born 22nd March 1947 in Nantyglo, Wales) is a former Rugby Union player who played scrum-half i.e. number 9 for club side Ebbw Vale RFC between 1966 and 1974 before turning professional to play Rugby League in England.

After turning professional Turner played at club level for Hull Kingston Rovers between 1974 and 1978 as a Centre, or Stand-off/Five-eighth, i.e. number 3 or 4, or 6 before moving to Hull RLFC between 1978 and 1980.

Turner was born and raised in Nantyglo.


Rugby Union Playing Career

Ebbw Vale RFC

Turner represented Ebbw Vale RFC between 1966 and 1974 scoring 147 Tries in 350 1st Team Appearances.In 1974 Season before going North he scored 15 tries in 22 games.

Rugby League Playing Career

Hull Kingston Rovers

Turner turned professional and moved North to Hull when he signed for Hull Kingston Rovers in 1974.

Hull RLFC

Turner played for Hull KR until 1978 when he moved to rivals Hull RLFC and stayed there until retirement in 1980.


County Honours

Turner represented Monmouthshire County RFC, Gwent County RFC and Crawshays RFC.


International Honours

Turner won caps for Wales Rugby League while at Hull Kingston Rovers in the 1975 European Rugby League Championship and 1975 Rugby League World Cup against Australia, England, Australia and France.[1]

Turner was also part of the Wales Rugby Union team that toured against Argentina in 1968 playing in both of the test matches in Buenos Aires. Turner was also on the bench for the Japan match in 1973 at the Cardiff Arms Park in Cardiff.

Turner also started for the Wales under 25's against Fiji at the Cardiff Arms Park in 1970.
