Episode 1

Episode 1: Amalfi Coast

The first episode aired on 13 September 2013 on ITV, STV and UTV and saw Gino travel to Amalfi Coast. [8]

First off, Gino visited the town of Amalfi, a favourite holiday destination from his childhood. Amalfi is famous for its Lemons, and Gino picks and tastes some Lemons grown high up in the Italian mountains. Inspired by this, Gino makes his own Creamy Lemon Mousse topped with crushed amaretti biscuits.

Gino then travels south down the coast to an organic Buffalo farm, where he meets some mozzarella makers and then serves up Buffalo mozzarella wrapped in parma ham and rocket, paired with a cocktail of limoncello and prosecco.

This place, Amalfi, means a lot to me, a lot of memories when I was a little boy. Probably age about 10 or 11. My mum and dad used to take my sister and I always here, to swim and to have ice-creams

Episode 2

Episode 2: Naples

The second episode aired on 20 September 2013 on ITV, STV and UTV and saw him travel to his birthplace Naples.[9]

Naples is famous for its Pizzas and credited for inventing the Mozzarella Pizza in 1889. Gino investigates the trend of Neapolitan food of the pizza and assists an award-winning chef to make one. Gino then cooked up a dish invented by his mother, Chicken in breadcrumbs, topped with fresh mozzarella with a pizza-style sauce.

To the west of Mount Vesuvius lies an extinct volcano, on which Gino picks vegetables and herbs inside the fertile crater and creates a Courgette frittata, topped with tomato, basil and olive salsa.

Anyone who knows me, they know that I love my coffee. But when I say I love my coffee, I'm talking about 10 to 15 coffees per day!

Episode 3

Episode 3: Bari

The third episode aired on 27 September 2013 on ITV, STV and UTV and saw him travel to Bari.[10]

The region of Puglia is famous for its Olive Oil and takes a closer look at the gnarled olive trees, which have dominated the landscape for thousands of years. He cooks up some Tender beef fillet, served with an Italian gremolata dressing and rocket salad. Gino travels to Puglia's capital Bari, where he tries some olive oil ice cream and meets a group of local ladies who handcraft orcchiette pasta.

Episode 4

Episode 4: Rome

The fourth episode aired on 4 October 2013 on ITV, STV and UTV and saw him travel to the capital of Italy, Rome.[11]

In Rome, Gino picks up some pancetta to make a traditional pasta carbonara in front of the Colosseum. After which, he travels to Ariccia, a town best known for its Porchetta. He visits the restaurant belonging to Anna Dente, a chef who has been keeping Roman recipes alive for over 40 years. In Anna's garden he prepares pan-fried lamb in rosemary and honey sauce with a fennel salad.

Episode 5

Episode 5: Gragnano

After a week's break for the live football match on ITV, the fifth episode aired on 18 October 2013 on ITV, STV and UTV and saw him travel to Gragnano, the area where he grew up and where some of his family still live.[12]

The town of Gragnano is world-famous for its Pasta. Gino visits one of the town's historic pasta factories, where some local ladies teach him the traditional skill of hand-rolling fusilli. He then goes high up in the surrounding mountains, and to an orchard where Gino comes across the reddest cherries he'd ever seen. Gino picks some of these and creates a Cherry tiramisu with vanilla mascarpone and liqueur.

For any Italian, I guarantee you, just like me, as soon as you wake up in the morning you are already thinking, 'What kind of pasta am I going to have today, what kind of sauce, what kind of shape?' It's so much part of our life that we're thinking about pasta all the time

Episode 6

The sixth and final episode of the first series aired on 25 October 2013 on ITV, STV and UTV and saw him travel to the region of Puglia.[13]
