Gina Rodriguez (born July 30, 1985)[1] is an American actress. She is best known for her roles as Majo Tenorio in musical drama film Filly Brown and as Beverly in the soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful.
Early years
She was born in Chicago, Illinois to Puerto Rican parents[2] and she is the youngest of three sisters.[3] At the age of seven, she performed at the salsa dance company Fantasia Juvenil.[4] She continued dancing salsa until age 17. [2] At the age of sixteen, she was among thirteen teenangers to be accepted into Columbia University.[4] She attended the NYU's Tisch School of the Arts.[2] She had four years of training at the Atlantic Theatre Company and Experimental Theatre Wing.[4] She portrayed the role of Frida Kahlo in the world premiere of Casa Blue in United Kingdom in the play called The Last Moments in the Life of Frida Kahlo at the American Stage Theatre.[4]
Career
On October 19, 2011, she landed the recurring role Beverly for the soap opera series The Bold and the Beautiful.[5] She received a role in the musical film Go for it! in which it stars actress Aimee Garcia in which she received a 2011 Imagen Awards nomination for her supporting role.[4] She appeared in Fully Brown, for which she won an Imagen Award.[1] On June 9, 2013, she won the Inaugural Lupe Award.[6] On April 16, 2013, During an interview, she revealed that she was offered a role in Lifetime’s television series Devious Maids in which she had turned down.[7] On October 16, 2013,it was announced that she would join the cast of the upcoming movie Sleeping With The Fishes.[8] She is also working on an album.[1]
