Gimnazija Meša Selimović is a gymnasium in Tuzla, Bosnia and Herzegovina. It was founded on September 12, 1899.

History

When it was founded in 1899, the school had only nine professors, and students attended for eight years. In 1905, the Austro-Hungarian monarchy built a new school building. In June 1907, the first graduating class of 17 students completed study.

Salt mining in Tuzla caused gradual ground sinking in many areas of the city, and damaged the Gimnazija building. It was demolished in 1961. From October 1961 to October 1968 Gimnazija moved to Kloster building (also destroyed due to sinking), and since October 1968, it has been housed in a new building, where it remains to date. In May 1989, Gimnazija was renamed to "Meša Selimović", after the renowned author and its most famous alumnus.

In 1998, three students placed second, third and fourth in the World Math competition in Taiwan.[citation needed]
