Germán Alejo Pezzella (born 27 June 1991) is an Argentine footballer who plays as a centre back for River Plate.

Career

Beginning

Pezzella arrived at River aged fourteen. Before this, Pezzella had played in the youth sections of different clubs in Buenos Aires such as Kilometre Five and Youth United of Algarrobo. His performances in the reserves brought him to the attention of Pipo Gorosito, who was at the time coach of River Plate.He was taken on the tour of Canada where he played against Toronto FC, Montreal Impact and Everton Football Club.

River Plate

Pezzella started as a substitute against Club Atlético Huracán in the 2009 Apertura. His debut came against Defensores de Belgrano in an Argentine Cup game where he was paired with another youngster Ramiro Funes Mori.

International career

Pezzella played for the Argentina team in the Toulon Tournament in 2009. Prior to the 2010 World Cup he was a member of the sparring squad that trained against the Argentina squad selected by Diego Maradona.

He has been a standout performer in the Argentina U20 team as captain and player. His impeccable tackling and reading of the game, allied to his leadership skills have attracted the attention of European clubs and he has the potential to become a top class central defender.
