George McGuigan (born 30 March 1993 in Richmond, North Yorkshire, England) is a rugby union player who plays for Newcastle Falcons in the Aviva Premiership. His position is Hooker (rugby union) and has represented Ireland U18's, U20's on several occasions.
Club career
Before the Falcons
McGuigan was born in Richmond, North Yorkshire and first played rugby for Richmond' High School, before moving to Newcastle to further continue his rugby career at Gosforth Academy. McGuigan was part of the Newcastle Falcons academy scheme which saw several Falcons academy players link up with the school to continue their studies and academy training during post-16.
Newcastle Falcons
McGuigan is currently a member of the first team squad after joining the club professionally in 2011. He did however make an appearance for Newcastle Falcons A vs Worcester in April 2011, Although he still awaits his full senior debut for the club, he has continued to impress within the A team with many calling for a senior debut for the 'young maestro'.
International career
Ireland U18
After successfully completing trials in 2010 McGuigan was selected to represent the Ireland U18 squad.
Ireland U20
On February 1st 2013, a date which is ever present within the young players mind as a day in which he can celebrate his call up, as well as his friends birthday. McGuigan made his debut against Wales creating several try scoring opportunities as well as injuring himself in the process, only to carry on and make a match saving tackle in his own final third.
