Geoffrey Lazer "Geoff" Ramsey (born Geoffrey Fink; June 19, 1975), is a machinima producer and voice actor for Rooster Teeth, which he co-founded. He also co-founded Achievement Hunter, a division of Rooster Teeth.
Background
Geoff grew up primarily in the Mobile, Alabama area where he attended elementary and high school, but lived in Florida and the outlying areas of New Orleans when he was younger. He was a semi-pro bowler in his teenage years, and enlisted into the United States Army before graduating high school, beginning basic training at Fort Jackson in South Carolina shortly afterwards. His service lasted from 1993 to 1998, though he would go on to serve as a photojournalist in Kuwait; he was based out of Fort Hood during that time.
After his military service, Ramsey secured a job at the tech support company TeleNetwork Partners, where he met Burnie Burns. Prior to working for Rooster Teeth and TeleNetwork, Ramsey worked as a production assistant for View Askew Productions,[1] and before that as a roadie for the band Catch 22.[2] He also co-created the web site drunkgamers.com with the original Rooster Teeth staff. Ramsey currently resides in Austin, Texas with his wife Griffon Ramsey, his daughter Millicent "Millie" Ramsey, and his co-worker and friend, Gavin Free. While changing his surname to his stepfather's, "Ramsey", he was informed by the court that it would not cost any more to change any other of his names. As a joke, he changed his middle name to "Lazer".[3]
Career
Ramsey is one of the original voice actors for Red vs. Blue (he voices Grif) which premiered in 2003. Since then, he has gone on to become an Internet celebrity, regularly appearing at conventions such as PAX and Comic-Con. Ramsey used to frequently join fellow RvB actors Burnie Burns, Gus Sorola, and Joel Heyman on the "Drunk Tank Podcast" (renamed to "The Rooster Teeth Podcast" in October 2011). He has not appeared on the podcast since September 2011.
In 2008, Ramsey started Achievement Hunter, a new department of Rooster Teeth Productions. The site is primarily run by Ramsey and colleague Jack Pattillo; they regularly release achievement guides, easter egg and other game-related videos. Achievement Hunter is unusually dependent on public guide contributions and so has guides across many different games and platforms, allowing the site to expand its focus from Xbox 360 games to a variety of different platforms. Achievement Hunter also releases a weekly video highlighting the next week's news in gaming called Achievement Hunter Weekly Update (AHWU).
Ramsey and Pattillo created a game through Halo: Reach's Forge mode, called "Achievement HORSE", based on the rules of the original game. Gamers send in maps they have created and Geoff and Jack play them every Wednesday. Time limitations occasionally shorten the spelled word to "Pig". In October 2011, a company-wide HORSE tournament was held; Ramsey was eliminated early on. Also in 2012 another tournament was held, he was once again eliminated early on in the tournament. On April 18, 2012, Ramsey and Patillo started playing Achievement Horse in Trials Evolution, using racing maps submitted by viewers.
Ramsey and Pattillo also started the highly popular "Halo Fails of the Weak" series; compilation videos of fan-submitted gameplay footage from the most current Halo game, released every Friday. An excessive volume of videos allowed the 'Fails' series to expand into the separate component GameFails.
