Gem, California

Gem is a former settlement in Monterey County, California.[1] It was located 3 miles (4.8 km) east of Bryson.[1]

The Gem post office operated from 1894 to 1899.[1] The name honors the postmaster's wife.[1]

Government

At the county level, the area that was once Gem is represented on the Monterey County Board of Supervisors by Supervisor Dave Potter .[2] In the California State Assembly, it is represented by Bill Monning as part of the 27th Assembly district.[3] In the State Senate, the area is represented by Sam Blakeslee as part of the 15th State Senate district.[4] In the U.S. House of Representatives, the area is part of California's 17th congressional district, represented by Sam Farr.[5]
