From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Geithus lies between Åmot and Vikersund, in Modum municipality, in Buskerud, Norway. There is a forty minute trip to Drammen, and a little over an hour to Oslo. It lies where Tyrifjorden's (the tyri fjord's) southwestern arm ends into Drammenselva (the Drammen river). Snarumselva (the Snarum river) also goes into Drammenselva here.

There is two water powerplants there, Gravfoss and Geithusfoss.

Geithusbrua (the Geithus bridge) is a cable bridge, that spans over just where Tyrifjorden turns into Drammenselva.

Originally, there were much of timber, cellulose, and paper industry in Geithus, in the factories union, Geithus bruk and Katfoss celluloce fabrik.

Until 2004, you could get to Geithus by train, but today it is closed, even thoug locals have demanded to get their station back.
