Geir Bjørklund

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Geir Bjørklund (born April 20, 1969 in Mo i Rana, Norway) is an independent researcher, medical/health science writer, journalist and editor. He is a member of various scientific organizations, including The Association of Social Scientists, and the World Association of Medical Editors.[1] Bjørklund is founder and president of the Council for Nutritional and Environmental Medicine (CONEM) - an international organization based in Norway.

Literary Work

Bjørklund is best known as an active proponent of biological medicine and mercury-free dentistry. Many of his medical articles concerning health effects of dental amalgam are published in peer-reviewed medical journals, and have been featured in Norwegian newspapers. His more recent research topics include autism spectrum disorders, metal allergy, fibromyalgia, nutrition, and epigenetics.[2][3][4][5][6] He has also written numerous popular scientific articles.

Geir Bjørklund is also known as the founder and former editor of the journals Tenner & Helse (organ for the Norwegian Dental Patient Association (Forbundet Tenner og Helse)), and Nordic Journal of Biological Medicine (Nordisk Tidsskrift for Biologisk Medisin).[7] He was in the 1990s freelance journalist for Sunnhetsbladet - the oldest popular medical journal in Norway.[8]

He has also had consulting assignments for the Norwegian Board of Health (Statens helsetilsyn).[9][10]

Standpoint

Bjørklund is critical to conventional medicine, and believes that the main focus in medicine should be directed towards promoting the healing of the organism as a whole. Conventional medicine focuses primarily on treating the diseases that are already broken out, by manipulating the symptoms - not the causes - mainly in two ways: with pharmaceutical drugs and surgery. These methods can in itself be good enough, but they don't attack the underlying causes.[11]

Awards

In 2003 the Albert Lindsay von Julin Foundation in Helsinki awarded Geir Bjørklund a scholarship of 10,000 Euros for his work to promote the understanding of biological medicine (ref).
